Cost to furnish an apartment in Brazil: the same living room at three budgets

Updated October 22, 2026

What it costs to furnish an apartment depends on how many rooms you furnish and how much you want to spend on each. To give you real prices: the same 15 m² living room, without sofa and TV, comes to R$ 2,864.17, R$ 7,562.42 or R$ 15,713.03 with pieces from Brazilian stores (prices from Oct 19, 2026). Your apartment's total is the sum of calculations like this, one per room.

Why I will not give you an average

I looked for a method-based survey on the average cost of furnishing an apartment in Brazil and did not find one. What shows up are ranges from blogs and real estate sites, too wide to plan with, and nobody shows what goes into them. So I show what you buy, piece by piece, with store and price, and you build your own total from there.

The same living room at 3 budgets, piece by piece

The example living room is 4.20 x 3.60 m (15.1 m²), in the Brazilian Contemporary style. The sofa and the TV are left out of all three totals. The proposals were built by Curvinha at the budgets "Up to R$ 5k", "Up to R$ 10k" and "Up to R$ 20k". All prices below are "from" prices, checked in the store on Oct 19, 2026. When a store gives a discount for paying with Pix (Brazil's instant payment system), the price shown is the Pix price and is marked "(Pix)".

These are Brazilian stores. Most deliver only inside Brazil, and prices are in Brazilian reais (R$) on the dates shown.

Up to R$ 5k: R$ 2,864.17 in 8 pieces

Up to R$ 10k: R$ 7,562.42 in 13 pieces

Up to R$ 20k: R$ 15,713.03 in 14 pieces

Prices change every week: the rug, for example, dropped R$ 35.91 between Oct 18 and 19. Check the price in the store again before you buy.

What changes from one budget to the next

Some pieces stay the same. The chevron rug and the rattan pendant are in all three living rooms. They are cheap pieces that already work there, and the bigger budget did not swap either one.

The extra money goes to a few pieces. In the R$ 20k living room, the rope armchair alone, from R$ 5,306.25 on Oct 19, 2026, takes a third of the total. The armchair in the R$ 5k living room is from R$ 881.37 on Oct 19, 2026 and sits in the same spot. If you want one special piece, pick one and keep the rest simpler.

Light shows up in all of them. Adding up pendant, wall light and lamps, lighting goes from R$ 505.91 in the R$ 5k living room to R$ 2,151.92 in the R$ 20k one, between 13% and 18% of the total. Even at the lowest budget, the room has more than one light source.

How to price your apartment

I do it room by room:

1. List the rooms you will furnish now. Living room, bedroom, dining corner, home office. Kitchen and bathroom work differently (appliances, custom cabinets), so handle them separately.
2. Cross off what you already own. Every piece that comes from your old home leaves the total.
3. Pick a budget per room. It does not have to be the same for all of them.
4. Add up the rooms, then add what falls outside the furniture list (next section).

An example with real prices, for a living room, a bedroom and a dining corner, all at the lowest budget:

All prices were checked in the store on Oct 19, 2026. The bedroom is the budget version of the 9 m² bedroom I put together in small bedroom decor. The total does not yet include mattress, curtains, paint, kitchen, bathroom, shipping or assembly. To furnish the living room on a small budget, see small living room decor.

The distances for the same room are in living room dimensions, and the light over a dining table in dining room chandelier size.

What almost everyone forgets

Shipping and assembly. They are not always in the product price, and each store charges in its own way. Check the product page before you pay and ask whether assembly is included.

Curtains. In the three example living rooms, curtains and paint were left out of the total. Living room curtains are usually wide and tall, so they get their own line in the budget. The measurements are in curtain height (in Portuguese).

Lighting. If the apartment comes with just a ceiling light point, someone has to buy the pendant or lamp and install it.

Mattress and bedding. The bed goes on the furniture list, but the mattress almost never does.

What does not fit. The most expensive purchase is the piece that arrives and does not get through the door or blocks the walkway. Measure first. What to measure is in furniture list for a new home (in Portuguese).

Where to start

If the money does not stretch to everything at once, start with what you use every day: bed, mattress, somewhere to sit and somewhere to eat. Rug, pictures and plants can arrive in the second month. For a TV unit, wardrobe and chest of drawers, the store's spec sheet says whether the board is MDF or MDP; what each one changes in price and use is in MDF or MDP (in Portuguese). If you are thinking of hiring a design project, the comparison between an architect, an online consultancy and an app is in online interior design (in Portuguese), and what to check before downloading an app is in how to choose a decor app (in Portuguese).

Calculated by the app. The totals (R$ 2,864.17, R$ 7,562.42, R$ 15,713.03 and R$ 8,956.23), the bedroom line (R$ 2,072.33), the lighting share (R$ 505.91 to R$ 2,151.92, 13% to 18%) and the rug price drop of R$ 35.91 come from Curvinha's own proposals and price history, not from an outside source.

In Curvinha, you measure the room with the scan from an iPhone Pro or Pro Max (12 or later) or an iPad Pro (2020 or later), or from a photo or PDF of the floor plan, pick the style and how much you want to spend (from "Up to R$ 5k" to "No limit"), and get the room in 3D with pieces from Brazilian stores that fit it. My list comes with store, price and the "View in store" button. The first room is free up to part of the proposal; the full proposal and the list are paid. The app is an iPhone app, sold only on the Brazilian App Store.

Frequently asked questions

How much does it cost to furnish a 50 m² apartment in Brazil?

There is no reliable average, because it depends on how many rooms you furnish and what you already own. As a reference: a living room (no TV), a double bedroom and a dining corner at the lowest budget added up to R$ 8,956.23 with prices from Oct 19, 2026, without mattress, curtains, kitchen, shipping and assembly.

How much should I spend to furnish a small apartment?

Price it room by room: list what you will furnish, cross off what you already have and pick a budget for each room. The same 15 m² living room, without sofa and TV, comes to R$ 2,864.17, R$ 7,562.42 or R$ 15,713.03 (prices from Oct 19, 2026).

How much does it cost to furnish a home with the basics?

The basics are a bed, a mattress, somewhere to sit, a table to eat at and somewhere to keep clothes. Add up the price of those pieces in the stores you use, then add shipping, assembly and curtains, which are almost never in the price of the furniture.

What should I buy first when furnishing a home?

Start with what you use every day: bed, mattress, somewhere to sit and somewhere to eat. Rug, pictures and plants can come later.
